This volume provides a contemporary, scholarly interpretation of the books of First and Second Chronicles, Old Testament writings that are often overlooked and seldom preached upon or studied in churches.

Once more, the Chronicler proves selective in use of his source. David’s song (2 Sam. 22//Ps. 18) and last words (2 Sam. 23:1–7) are passed over by the Chronicler, in preference for his own account of David’s final actions and words (see 22:1–29:30). The list of warriors in David’s service from 2 Samuel 23:8–39, remember, is placed by the Chronicler toward the beginning of David’s story (11:10–47).
